FCCLA
Irwin County FCCLA attends SLC

Alana Biggers, Carley Sadler and advisor, Denise Hamby, attended FCCLA SLC in Athens on March 24-26. The two senior members competed in STAR Events in the areas of Job Interview and Early Childhood Education. They attended the Opening Ceremony where they marched across the big stage at the Classic Center and represented Irwin County. They heard  Keynote Speaker, Dedee Trotter, three-time Olympian in the sport of track and field give a motivational speech that related to all of us and was titled “I Can, I Must, I Will!”

They attended a Region 8 meeting along with informational  workshops.

Alana was the voting delegate and was amongst others who chose the next state executive council for 2022-23. Although Alana did not receive a medal in her STAR event, she represented our chapter very well and networked with many new friends.

In her STAR Events competition on Early Childhood Education, Carley received a silver medal, but unfortunately, will not progress to Nationals. She is a first year chapter member and has been very active in many events held by ICFCCLA this year. We are very proud of her accomplishments.

Both of these wonderful members are planning to attend college in the field of education.

Alana will attend ABAC in Agricultural Education in the Fall and Carley has been accepted in the College of Education at VSU, but has not made her final decision.

We sincerely wish to say thank you to the staff and administration at Irwin County High School. We also would like to thank all who supported these fine young ladies in their adventures. Without you, this type of event would be impossible.
